Dr Shoaib Choudhari
More than anything I want my patients to feel more relaxed when they leave than when they arrived.
Shoaib’s back story:
It might surprise people to know I’m a local Gold Coast boy. I came to Australia at a young age and was raised here on the Gold Coast where I attended local primary and high schools, and even completed my dental studies at Griffith University’s Gold Coast campus.
It’s fair to say I was always drawn to dentistry. Why? Because I felt compelled to do something with my hands. Even as a young child, I loved building and putting things together. Two of my uncles were doctors and with their encouragement, I pursued dental studies and have never regretted it.
As a dentist, I’ve continued to develop myself, looking for other challenges. This has led me to gain professional experience by working in regional areas in Australia, as well as overseas in England and Scotland. Challenging in many ways, but also very rewarding, I especially enjoyed working on more complex surgical cases.
What Shoaib enjoys about his work:
The thing I love most about my work is every patient is different. It follows that each patient is an opportunity, even a challenge, to see how I can help them improve their oral health and general health. I find this aspect of my work is hugely satisfying.
My approach with patients – whether they’re new or people I’ve been treating for some time – is to understand their concerns and expectations and to work through each one of these. I’ve found by listening really well to people’s needs, I am much better placed to provide guidance on steps they can take to better oral health. Regardless of who I’m seeing, I take the opportunity to educate and make them aware that prevention is better than cure.
Without sounding funny, I like to bring humour and warmth to my patients, and always try to make things as relaxed as possible. I’m known for my jokes and have a pretty good track record at getting my patients to smile, even if they’re receiving more complex treatment.
What Shoaib wants for Define Dental patients:
More than anything I want my patients to feel more relaxed when they leave than when they arrived. It’s also important to me they understand their treatment and have confidence in how it will help improve their oral and general health.
What we love about Shoaib:
We love that Shoaib wants to make coming to the dentist a relaxed experience and that he brings humour to his work without losing sight of the more serious message of preventive care. He truly understands he’s treating people and we think they’ll know it by the way he looks after them.
